Baton Rouge is the perfect setting for Nitro Jam as we learned last year. From great food and incredible pit parties to some of the best racing seen all year, Mardi Gras Nitro Jam is the place for good food, good times and great racing,”

Thousands of spectators packed State Capitol’s 140-acre facility last year to witness the return of Top Fuel and nitro racing to Louisiana and even more fans are expected this season to take part in what is being billed as the world’s largest nitro party.

Nearly two dozen nitro-fueled dragsters and funny cars making up Top Fuel, Pro Fuel and Prostalgia Nitro Funny Car will fill the lanes alongside eight of the country’s wildest Outlaw Pro Mods, Ken Nelson’s wheelstanding school bus the “Cool Bus”, the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet truck and a huge fireworks display all of which will be featured twice each night.

Fans will also be treated to a wild pit party where they can see the cars up close and personal and meet the drivers during Fan Fest, a designated time prior to each race where fans can get autographs, take pictures and witness the awesome spectacle that is the “Nitro Earthquake” as all 20 nitro cars warm up at the same time.

“It is going to be an event unlike any other in the history of Nitro Jam. I fully expect records to be broken and plenty of side-by-side nitro racing.

And providing the backdrop once again is Louisiana’s unique culture and flair. It will be impossible to walk through the pits without seeing crawfish on the grill or people having a good time and living the Mardi Gras spirit.

“What makes this event so unique is the people. Last year track owners Lanny and Valerie Lewis cooked thousands of pounds of crawfish and had an incredible pit party for the fans and drivers. It is that excitement and just plain fun atmosphere that makes Baton Rouge one of the most anticipated stops on the Nitro Jam tour each year,” Polburn said. “Lanny and Valerie have a great facility, but most importantly they know how to have fun and put on a great show. They give that something extra that makes this event so much fun.”

Last year’s event was so big even a few celebrities joined in the celebration as LSU head football coach Les Miles acted as grand marshal for the event.

Who knows what will happen this year when Mardi Gras Nitro Jam rolls into town March 6-7 at State Capitol Raceway.
